All About Texas Hold'em

Texas Hold'em poker is today one of the most familiar forms of online poker, and for good reason, as it is a fun game that is easy to get to grips with, but difficult to master. It is based on the principle of the players each having two concealed cards, with all players sharing five common cards,  making their best five card poker hand from both their hole cards and the community cards.

As with every other type of poker, there are two ways to win at Texas Hold'em - having the best called card on the last round of betting or convincing other players to concede to your bet and fold.

The Fascinating History of Texas Hold'Em Poker

While Texas Hold'em is now one of the first variations of poker that many people try when they sign up to an online poker site, in the world of 'real life' poker, the game took a while to catch on.

Despite little being known about the invention of Texas Hold'em, the city of Robstown has been officially recognised by the Texas State Legislature as the place where the game was born, supposedly in the early 20th century.  It became known in and around Texas in the 1950s and spread to Las Vegas late the following decade, but was only introduced to Europe in the early 1980s.

Limit or No Limit?

One of the key choices that prospective Texas Hold'em poker players need to make - in both offline and online poker environments - is between the limit and no limit variations of the game.

Limit Texas Hold'em poker is defined by pre-determined betting amounts that are limited to a fixed sum. This means that if a game is played with a limit of £2, for example, all bets - except the small blind, which would be £1 - must be £2. No limit Texas Hold'em poker, on the other hand, involves no predetermined maximum bet or limit.
